“WW1 Victory Lamp - November 11, 1918”

November 11, 1918: "The War to End All Wars" had just ended and the world was ready to move on to times of peace.

Inscribed around the base of this lamp is a paraphrase of Isiah 2:4 “They beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” The end of the passage is: “Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.” It’s a poignant expression of how a world weary of war hoped to have a lasting peace.

This lamp was created to encourage this spirit of turning weapons of war into useful peace-time items. When originally sold, these lamps included a booklet describing the "Spirit" of the lamp. Amazingly, this booklet has remained with this lamp. The helmet is original as well.
