Sir Douglas Bader, the famous legless ace of WWII.
I met Sir Douglas Bader in the R.A.F club in London, when I had lunch with him and the famed WWII artist, Frank Wootton. He just told me to say we were related - as he liked what I was doing - then a year later I brought him to the U.S., with Wing Commander Bob Stanford-Tuck to talk at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. I was having a cup of coffee with Sir Douglas, and while we were talking about our families, we learned that my father was his first cousin. I was just thrilled to learn this, as he was such a brave and wonderful man and had overcome so much in his life.
Yes, in the photograph, you do see Adolf Galland on the left.
