A scene depicting a typical Marine island airbase in the Pacific Theater. Crushed coral airstrips and spartan conditions were the routine for Marine pilots and ground personnel operating from the many islands in the South Pacific. In this scene, Corsairs are in the landing pattern after a mission as ground crews perform maintenance work on other aircraft to prepare them for the next day's work. It was a round the clock job to keep combat aircraft operational on these islands. Working conditions were rough, aircraft parts were hard to get, and there was no shortage of biting insects, diseases, and inclimate weather to make things more difficult.
