DPlane Type: XB-70 Valkyrie
Original Painting: $11,500
The desert air is typically still and rows of gray white cumulus clouds are developing in the growing late morning heat. It is April 8, 1966, and high above the desert, two aircraft streak on a purposeful mission. Accelerating through Mach 2 the TB-58 chase plane is now falling behind as the gleaming white XB-70 presses on for altitude and speed. At the conclusion of this flight pilot Fitzhugh "Fitz" Fulton and co-pilot Al White will record that the XB-70 number 20207 flew at Mach 3.00 or greater for 16 minutes and reached a maximum speed of 3.07 at 73,000 feet.
